SKYTRAX announce the closure of the 2010/2011 World Airport Survey

The Trusted Airport Survey

LONDON, UK - 1st March 2011

SKYTRAX announced the closure of the 2010/2011 World Airport Survey, and confirmed that this major, annual airport customer survey expanded its global reach, with more than 11.38 million travellers taking part.

The Survey was established in 1999, and is held in high esteem for the clarity of process and rigorously applied rules of total independence. The results are based on unsolicited customer survey responses, there being no form of subscription or membership required for an airport to be included. Throughout the 8 month survey period, Skytrax maintain daily monitoring, assessment and validation of customer feedback, with full clarity of methodology and results made available to all airports.

"When we look at the scale of air travel today, we see it as vital that a credible airport survey must achieve the widest possible coverage to be truly representative of customer opinions. This year, customer participation for some of the larger airports was in excess of 175,000 travellers per airport, which is well in excess of any paid-for or participation based survey studies that airport operators help to complete. The World Airport Survey is not of course just a popularity contest, and the questionnaire is designed in such a way as to identify the Best Airports across a wide spectrum of topics" said Edward Plaisted of Skytrax.

The World Airport Awards enjoy the highest level of credibility amongst the world's air travellers and airports around the globe. The awards are based on the 11.38 million survey questionnaires completed by over 100 nationalities of airport customer, covering more than 240 airports worldwide.

The results are to be announced on 30th March 2011, at the World Airport Awards ceremony taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark as part of the Passenger Terminal Expo. More than 50 awards will be announced to include for the first time awards for the Best Regional Airports, together with an all new category for Best Airport Hotels around the world. The awards are known across the globe as the Passengers Choice awards.

"We are delighted to have seen the survey coverage grow yet again during this past year, and our real thanks go to each and every airport customer that took the time and trouble to complete the questionnaire. We have to now wait until 30th March for the final results to be announced, although I do know that we have again witnessed an extremely close result for the premier category of World's Best Airport! With the addition of some new categories in the 2011 World Airport Awards, we are looking forward to seeing both familiar and some less familiar faces at the ceremony."  Edward Plaisted, Skytrax

The World Airport Awards Ceremony were held on 30th March 2011, as part of the Passenger terminal Expo - the event took place at the Bella Center, Center Boulevard 5, Copenhagen in Denmark.
