London Stansted Airport has been named as the World's Best Low Cost Airport at the 2013 Skytrax
World Airport Awards held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Geneva. This completes a hat-trick of awards
for the fourth busiest airport in the UK who also took the top prize in 2011 and 2012.
"We have seen an upturn in the number of nominations in the low-cost airport category in the 2013 survey,
and London Stansted should be delighted with its consistent performance over the last 3 years. Demand for
low-cost air travel continues to grow, as does the number of airports specifically targeting terminal facilities
that cater for these passengers. From our survey results we can see that Stansted continues to lead other 'low-cost'
airports by someway in the global results and is ranked amongst some of the larger airports in Europe and
Asia" said Edward Plaisted of Skytrax.
Previous winner Berlin Schönefeld Airport returned to the top-5 finishing in 2nd place, with last year's
runner-up Luton Airport taking 3rd. Brussels South Charleroi Airport achieved a 4th place finish with the
Kuala Lumpur LCCT completing the top-5. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (6th), East Midlands Airport (7th), Milan Bergamo
Airport (8th), Lubeck Airport (9th) and Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (10th) completed the top-10.
