The Airport Industry Awards

The results are based on 12 million passenger surveys completed in a 10-month survey period, covering over 388 airports. The survey evaluates the total passenger experience across 39 airport service and product features, from arrival at an airport, through transit and departure processes to the boarding gate. Since 1999, this annual airport customer survey has been respected for clarity and independence, with no airport influence or bias. The World Airport Awards are the global benchmark of airport excellence, known as the Passenger's Choice Awards.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport wins the award as the Best Airport in Western Europe

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has been named as the Best Airport in Western Europe at the 2012 World Airport Awards held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna.

"We offer our sincere congratulations to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and its management on another year of success. Consistent performance in both the leisure and transit airport categories indicates that Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is considered the premier airport in Europe for transfer passengers. The open airside environment for passengers in transit was a repeated reason given by respondents voting in the survey" said Edward Plaisted, Chairman of SKYTRAX.

In a successful year for airports in London, 2nd place was achieved by London Heathrow Airport, with London City Airport in 3rd. London Stansted Airport took 4th place with London Gatwick Airport completing the top-5.
