The Airport Industry Awards

The results are based on 12 million passenger surveys completed in a 10-month survey period, covering over 388 airports. The survey evaluates the total passenger experience across 39 airport service and product features, from arrival at an airport, through transit and departure processes to the boarding gate.  Since 1999, this annual airport customer survey has been respected for clarity and independence, with no airport influence or bias. The World Airport Awards are the global benchmark of airport excellence, known as the Passenger's Choice Awards.

Auckland International Airport wins the award as the Best Airport in Australia/Pacific

Auckland International Airport was again named Best Airport in the Australia / Pacific region at the 2012 World Airport Awards held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Vienna.

"We congratulate Auckland on their success at this year's awards. Winning both the Best Airport Australia/Pacific and Best Airport Staff Service in Australia/Pacific is a real statement of quality in terms of both product and service standards. Overall, we have seen an improvement in performance for several major airports in this category and Auckland should be pleased that it is still considered the premier airport in this region." said Edward Plaisted, Chairman of SKYTRAX.

Simon Moutter, Chief Executive of Auckland Airport said, "Auckland Airport is extremely proud, and as we say in New Zealand, stoked to have been recognised on the global stage in the Skytrax World Airport Awards for the fourth year in a row as the best airport in Australia Pacific. We are especially pleased to have reclaimed the award for Best Airport Staff Australia/Pacific, highlighting once again that the focus of everyone at the airport on making journeys better continues to help us shine in the eyes of passengers."

Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport moved up the rankings into 2nd place this year with Brisbane Airport in 3rd place. Melbourne Tullamarine Airport in 4th with Gold Coast Airport completing the top-5.

Check out what air travellers are saying ...

Qatar Airways staff were friendly and very efficient, great crew and top class in-flight service.

British Airways Club World seat is very narrow from the hips down, and I found it quite hard to fall asleep.

Air France Boeing 777-300 economy class seats was far the narrowest seat I have ever sat in.

Emirates A380 business class seats are not as roomy as one would think or hope.

Malaysia Airlines business class Golden Lounge in Melbourne very comfortable and quiet, staff welcoming and friendly.

Los Angeles International Airport the worst airport I have been to, floors filthy, staff inconsistent and rude.

Asiana Airlines has it's 5-Star Airline Certification renewed for 2012 after passing latest Quality Audit.

Singapore Airlines Raffles business class wins title as World's Best Business Class at the World Airline Awards

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is officially certified as a SKYTRAX 4-Star Airport.
