Mr Gustavo Morales, Chief Commercial Officer, Jorge Chávez Airport receives Service Excellence Award South America |
"Introduced into our 2009 Survey for the first time, the Staff Service Excellence Award is greatly coveted by airports,
because it is a unique recognition of the hard work put in by their customer facing, front-line staff" said Edward Plaisted of Skytrax.
"Staff Service Excellence Awards are voted for by airport customers, and allow these users to have a
real impact in deciding which airport's front-line staff deserve special recognition. The Staff Service Excellence awards encompass all the potential service touchpoints through the airport experience - this might
be security or immigration procedures, service in a shop or food outlet, or staff cleaning the washrooms. These are all people related aspects of service, where in reality it costs
nothing extra for staff to be helpful, polite and friendly ... and yet as our survey results highlight, some airports deliver much higher standards than others in this area. In seeking to maximise customer satisfaction and
encourage passengers to want to use an airport again, the Quality of front line service is critical. It is the quality of service experience that has the greatest impact on post-travel assessment of an airport, and why we place such importance on this element" added Plaisted.

1. Jorge Chávez International Airport, Lima
Jorge Chávez International Airport is Peru's main international and domestic airport. Between January and
December 2010 the airport handled 10,278,493 passengers. In February 2005, the first phase of a new renovation
and expansion project was completed, including the Peru Plaza Shopping Center and the new concourse. In June
2007 a four-star hotel opened in front of the terminal, Ramada Costa del Sol. Peru Plaza Shopping Center is
located near the passenger terminal in the Grand Concourse, the expansion included a new shopping center with
stores, restaurants, gyms, spa, and souvenir shops. Stores such as Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Versace,
Timberland and Esprit are located in the duty-free area of the concourse, this area will also be expanded by
2011.
2. Guayaquil Airport
The airport is located 5 km north of Guayaquil's centre, known as José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport. The airport was named after
José Joaquín de Olmedo, a notable Ecuadorian poet, first mayor of the city of Guayaquil and former president of Ecuador. It was formerly known as Simón Bolívar International Airport.
The airport, which has the newest terminal in Ecuador, was renamed after José Joaquín de Olmedo in 2006, in preparation for the inauguration of the
new 50,000 sq. meter national and international terminal on 27 July 2006. Although there was an inaugural flight in July 2006, most airlines did not
operate completely from the new terminal 13 August 2006. After that date, the old terminal was closed and it was later turned into a convention center.
3. Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport
São Paulo Guarulhos Airport is located 25 km from downtown São Paulo. Guarulhos is Brazil's busiest airport,
handling 26,774,546 passengers in 2010. All passenger traffic is divided between two terminals with 260 check-
in counters, the airport is operational 24 hours a day. Airport plans call for the construction of two
additional terminals and a third runway, bringing the airport to full capacity for passenger and cargo
operations. The airport can service up to 20.5 million passengers a year.
