The world’s largest, annual airport passenger satisfaction survey with 11 million air travellers from over 160 countries participating. The survey evaluates customer experience across 39 different airport service and product factors. It analyses service Quality for departure, arrival and transit, including terminal facilities, comfort and cleanliness, security and immigration services, signage and directions, shopping and dining standards, staff service ... and much more. The survey is globally respected for its total impartiality and independence, being regarded as the global benchmark of airport excellence and Quality ranking.

John C. Mok, Chief Executive Officer, CVG Airport
receives the Staff Service Excellence Award North America

"Introduced into our 2009 Survey for the first time, the Staff Service Excellence Award is greatly coveted by airports, because it is a unique recognition of the hard work put in by their customer facing, front-line staff" said Edward Plaisted of Skytrax.

"Staff Service Excellence Awards are voted for by airport customers, and allow these users to have a real impact in deciding which airport's front-line staff deserve special recognition. The Staff Service Excellence awards encompass all the potential service touchpoints through the airport experience - this might be security or immigration procedures, service in a shop or food outlet, or staff cleaning the washrooms. These are all people related aspects of service, where in reality it costs nothing extra for staff to be helpful, polite and friendly ... and yet as our survey results highlight, some airports deliver much higher standards than others in this area. In seeking to maximise customer satisfaction and encourage passengers to want to use an airport again, the Quality of front line service is critical. It is the quality of service experience that has the greatest impact on post-travel assessment of an airport, and why we place such importance on this element" added Plaisted.

1. CINCINNATI / NORTHERN KENTUCKY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Officially known as Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Cincinnati Airport serves the Greater Cincinnati area, with more than 10 million passengers using the airport each year. Downtown Cincinnati is 13 miles north-east of the airport, a 25-minute trip by airport shuttle. The airport has three terminals, though only two are in use. Terminal 3 is served by Delta and its regional affiliates. All international arrivals except, U.S. border pre-clearance are processed in the Mezzanine Level of Concourse B. Concourse B in Terminal 3 is well-known for its open spaces, high ceilings, large windows with views of the airfield, and natural lighting during the day.

2. VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Canada’s second busiest airport, Vancouver International Airport welcomed 16.2 million people in 2009. Since 1992, when the Airport Authority assumed responsibility for the airport, passenger traffic has increased more than 78% from 9.9 million passengers. The 1980s welcomed a series of modifications and expansions to the terminal. In 1986 Vancouver hosted Expo 86 – the first major world-class event to pass through the Vancouver International Airport. By 1989, the airport became commonly known as “YVR” – a name that soon became synonymous with the Vancouver International Airport. In 1992 YVR became on of the first four airports in Canada transferred from the Federal Government to local community-based, not-for-profit organizations. The new Airport Authority officially assumed management and operation on July 1 and embarked on an ambitious development plan. The late 1990s and early 2000s were exponential growth years at YVR. The opening and continuous expansions of the International Terminal Building allowed for expanded transborder and international traffic. In June of 2002, The Airport Authority celebrated its 10th anniversary and becomes the first organization to be designated a Power Smart Certified business by BC Hydro. This was the first of many steps towards a commitment to sustainability The Airport Authority would honour in coming years. In 2004, after three years of unprecedented challenges, the aviation industry rebounds strongly, setting the stage for a period of sustained growth. YVR welcomes 15.7 million passengers. In February, the Airport Authority announces a $1.4 billion 10-year Capital Program to help ensure YVR can accommodate the 21 million passengers expected in the future.

3. SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT

San Francisco International Airport is a major international airport located 21 km south of downtown San Francisco. The airport is composed of four terminals and seven concourses arranged in a ring. Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 handle domestic flights. The International Terminal handles international flights and some domestic flights. Terminal 2 is undergoing renovations, which will be completed in 2011. SFO's international terminal opened in December 2000 to replace International Departures from Terminal 2. It is the largest international terminal in North America.
