Ms Nina Malherbe, ACSA Head of Baggage Operations receives the 2011 Best Regional Airport Africa Award |
Best Regional Airport Awards recognises airports (sometimes smaller airports) that are delivering the highest levels of service and customer satisfaction. The definition of a regional airport is variable around the world, but for the survey results, a regional airport is normally not a capital city airport, and is not a major hub serving long haul intercontinental routes.
Many regional airports covered in the survey handle a substantial number of passengers, but concentrate primarily on short to medium haul routes.
King Shaka International Airport in Durban, South Africa was top in the Regional Airport category for Africa, winning by quite a considerable margin.
This new airport was opened in time for last years World Cup.
"King Shaka Airport proved to be popular with voters for its modern facilities and friendly
staff service and passengers clearly appreciate this comfortable travelling environment judging by the number of votes this airport received" said Skytrax. Marrakech Menara airport in Morroco was in 2nd place and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt coming in 3rd.
