1. MOSCOW DOMODEDOVO AIRPORT
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is located 42 kms southeast of Moscow centre. Domodedovo is the largest airport in
Russia in terms of passenger and cargo traffic - 22.25 million passengers used the airport in 2010. The
airport operator is currently doubling the terminal space to 225,000 square metres and announced plans to
invest a further US$300 million into construction and upgrades in the next two years. The 97,600 m2 passenger
Terminal (T1) at DME is set to increase in size by 27,000 m2 in the first stage of expansion which will be
designated as T2 (this will be a dedicated international terminal). This first expansion will allow an
enlarged space for the check-in area and departure gates. The first phase of T2 was completed by the end of
2006 and allows an additional capacity of 7 million passengers per year. This will be followed by phase two
expansion of T2 which will increase the overall size of the passenger terminal to 225,000m2. This is scheduled
for completion by 2012. By 2012 the new domestic T3 terminal will be completed, increasing DME's capacity to
24-28 million passengers per year, approximately doubling its current capacity. Once T4 is built, the
airport's capacity is estimated to be around 30 to 35 million passengers a year. All terminals will remain
connected.
2. BUDAPEST AIRPORT
Budapest Airport is located 16 kms southeast of Budapest centre. On 16th March 2011 the name of Budapest
Ferihegy International Airport was changed to Budapest Franz Liszt International Airport. Ferihegy airport has
three main terminals: 1, 2A and 2B, and a smaller one for general aviation flights. Malév has the most flights
at the airport. The largest foreign airline (in terms of passengers carried from and to Budapest) is
Lufthansa.
3. MOSCOW
SHEREMETYEVO AIRPORT
Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport is located 29 kms north-west of central Moscow. It is a hub for Aeroflot, and one
of the three major airports serving Moscow along with Domodedovo International Airport and Vnukovo. It is the
second largest in Russia (after Domodedovo). In 2010, the airport handled 19,329,000 passengers and 184,488
aircraft movements. Terminal C is complete beside the old Terminal 1, and has 40,000 m2 of floor space and has
a capacity of 5 million passengers per year. Sheremetyevo-1 currently caters mainly to internal low-cost
flights and flights to Minsk. It will be refurbished as a terminal for business jets, to be designated as
Terminal B. Another new building, Terminal D, opened in November 2009. The 170,000 m2 building is home to
Aeroflot and its SkyTeam partners, with capacity for 12 million passengers a year. Aeroflot is in the course
of transferring all international flights from Terminal F to D.
